Commonsensical

The girls decided to write short stories today, and R (age 8) spent some time explaining her idea of a story line to E (age 11).
Then E said, “R, I just don’t see how you would be able to fit all of that into a short story.”
R replied matter-of-factly, “Small words. Big paper.”

bad BAD blogger!

Okay, I was tagged awhile ago by two different people, Clare and Holly, and I have not gotten around to responding to them until now. So here they are…

These are the rules from Clare’s Tag~

1. Each player starts with eight random facts/habits about themselves.

2. People who are tagged need to write their own blog about their eight things and post these rules.

3. At the end of the blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.

4. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged and to read your blog.

Here are my eight~

1. I have a strange habit of rubbing the flat part of my fingernail across my lip back and forth when I am just sitting idle. I think this is something left-over from when I sucked my thumb when I was little.

2. I swore that I would never live in the South, but I have been living here now for 8 years, and I don’t think I’ll ever leave.

3. I met Matthew on the internet.

4. Perry Ferrell once gave me a swig from his bottle of wine.

5. I was obsessed with Snoopy when I was little, and then later with Duran Duran.

6. I can skateboard and play pool.

7. I’m working on improving my bad posture.

8. I’m having a hard time thinking of anything else since I have done one of these before and I don’t want to repeat myself.

I will tag….. anyone that reads this who wants to be tagged.

The Downhill Side to 70

Me and Ruth“After tonight, Mommy will be on the downhill side to 70.” That’s what M said to the girls last night at dinner time.

It’s true, today is my Birthday, and I am now 36.

It’s been a really nice day so far. Before I even woke up, the girls cleaned the school room, and their bedroom, and made cards for me… R even wrote my name and hers all by herself. M made a card for me too and also made me breakfast and had Paul Simon playing even though he can’t stand Paul Simon (now that’s sacrifice!).  And before I even wrote this post, my friend Elizabeth called me, and my friend Ursula sent me an e-card, and I got a card in the mail from my parents.

I am told that there will be cake tonight, but they all swear they couldn’t find anything good as far as any gifts for me. Even though I don’t believe them, it would still be okay because M said that he will do all of the dishes tonight.

So, now I am going to shut the computer off and enjoy the rest of the day. (o:

A Pink Hat Party

Since we were gone all summer long and the girls each had a birthday during that time, some friends of ours wanted to give E and R a little pink hat birthday party this past weekend. They were in little girl heaven (well, heaven yet still full of sin!).

They each had their own cake. R picked chocolate with chocolate frosting and M & M’s, and E picked pink cake with blueberries and pink icing with sprinkles and M & M’s (yes, she really is a complicated child). My friend L had a huge selection of pink hats for us all to wear (well, M and her husband didn’t participate in that part), ordered Chinese food, and opened a few (beautiful) presents. It was so incredibly nice of them to do all that! We all had such a nice time.
